Here you are on a road and this road is your life. The road ahead looks pretty good - its flat, wide, comfortable and there are plenty of people on it - its basically the way you are going. But it leads to destruction. And there's a little fork off the road which doesn't look too inviting - its narrow, its steep, its stony - its not even a proper path really - it looks as though it goes up a hill and around a corner and you can't see what's ahead of you. And you stand at this fork on the road and you've got loads of stuff with you and the longer you have been on the road, the longer you have been in this life, the more stuff you've got and the more bags you have and baggage. And standing at the fork is Jesus. And He says "I want you to put down all of that stuff and I want you to follow me up this track." And at this point in time all the things that start to go through your head are "well its easier if I just stay on the main road, its what I know, its what I'm sure about and I don't really want to leave all of these bags behind." And a lot of people come to this point in their life and most of them will stay on the main road, they will keep on going the way that they are going. Some will try the track but they'll take their bags with them - but that doesn't work because pretty soon they fnd out that they can't take their bags with them up the track and they'll either turn back or give up their bags - it won't work. But Jesus isn't looking for either of these things - Jesus is looking for people who when they reach this point in life say "from here on in, even if it means that its just you and me Jesus, that's all I need, I'll give up everything and follow you, everything." And the consequences of this choice are eternal.
